Signed Mid 20th C. Chinese Scroll Painting on Silk

East Asia, China, mid 20th century. A fine painted silk hanging scroll presenting a beautiful composition depicting a lush landscape with thatch-roofed shelters along a winding river that is dotted with leafy trees and rolling hills in the distance. A few seated figures occupy the structures in the foreground, and others row boats in the river. A wonderful painting of an age-old theme that can be traced back to the Chinese literati artists. All is delineated with a tasteful palette on silk, in a gong-bi (meticulous) style with precise details. There is a calligraphic inscription or poem with a red seal below at the upper left corner of the painting. Size: painting measures 24.75" L x 9" W (62.9 cm x 22.9 cm); 53.5" L x 13" W (135.9 cm x 33 cm) including scroll

Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, acquired in England in the 1970s

Condition Report: Inscribed label on verso. Minor nicks to edges of scroll paper at each end and slight stains/foxing to scroll paper, but the painting is excellent. There is a calligraphic inscription, a poem, with a red seal below at the upper left corner of the painting. Comes in a cardboard box with labels on lid.
