A gilt bronze Sakyamuni Buddha figure, seated robed and cross-legged on a lotus flower dais, hand held in Varada mudra to signify the gift of medicine to sentient life, holding a sprig of the myrobalan plant in between the thumb and forefinger of his right hand; seal to base. 1.3 kg, 20cm (8"). The RWM Collection; acquired in France, 2019. The myrobalan plant was used as an herbal remedy in ancient India to treat disorders such as skin disease, infection, and eye disorders. It was very effective, so much so that it is still widely used today. [No Reserve]
