Sixth Plate Ambrotype of Genteel Confederate Soldier from Georgia

Sixth plate ambrotype of an unidentified Confederate soldier from Georgia, wearing a common state-issue, eight button shell jacket made of course jean cloth with black collar. Manufactured in quantity beginning in May 1861, this distinctive pattern of uniform was worn extensively by early war Georgia troops with variations of same noted in period photographs. This style of uniform is thought to have been manufactured primarily by Volunteer (Ladies) Aid Societies, more so than by military outfitters under contract. Housed in full thermoplastic Union case, Raising the Brood [Berg 2-63].
Condition Report: Very strong condition. Focus a little soft. Light wear to image where plate meets mat. Case with some chips along edges/corners.
