"Fairy Book", by Sophie May, "Little Prudy Series"; published by Lee and Shepard, Boston, First Edition with '1865' on the bottom of the title page and copyright 1865; illustrated with engravings.

Blind decorated hard boards, original red cloth, gold lettering on spine [wear]; 4” x 6.1/2”; undated inscription on the front endpaper [see photo]; frontispiece with tissue guard, faded stamp of 'Frank C. Goodale' on top of the title page, 178 pages + 2 engraved plates, a little soling and wear, very good condition.

Provenance:
Frank C. Goodale owned Apothecary and Family Drug Store in Philadelphia c.1870-1900.

Rebecca Sophia Clarke (1833-1906), also known as Sophie May, was an American author of children's fiction. Using her nieces and nephews as inspiration, she wrote stories about children. Between 1860 and 1903 she wrote 45 books, the most popular being the Little Prudy series. She spent most of her life in her native town of Norridgewock, Maine.
