South East Asian Thai Gilt Seated Buddha
18th-19th century AD. A gilt-bronze statuette of Buddha sitting cross-legged on a lotus flower dais; Buddha's right hand extending to the base, the Maravijaya posture, and left hand placed palm-upwards in his lap; the triangular base with a rounded slot in each face, hollow to the underside. 1.1 kg, 21cm (8 1/4"). Property of an East Sussex gentleman; from his private collection formed between 1983 and 1990; formerly in a South East London collection formed in the 1970s.
