South East Asian Thai Seated Maravijaya Buddha
19th century AD. A gilt-bronze figure of Buddha seated on a hollow-formed base; the right hand extended to the earth in the Maravijaya posture, and the left hand placed palm-upwards in the lap. 2.5 kg, 27cm (10 1/2"). Property of an East Sussex gentleman; from his private collection formed between 1983 and 1990; formerly in a South East London collection formed in the 1970s.
