(some lvs disbound includ. title, foxing but more to the 1st lvs). - First edition ill. with 100 full-page plates drawn by Nesfield (1835-1888) who designed several houses in Britain in the revived "Old English" and "Queen Anne" styles during the 1860s and 1870s. He was also an interior designer and painter. His vivid sketches are mainly of the major early Gothic cathedrals of Northern France, e.g. Amiens, Bayeux, Chartres, Mont St-Michel, Sens, etc.
