Maddalena

Ancient large-sized painting from the second half of the 17th century.

Origin
Lombard family

This remarkable painting depicts a devout image of Mary Magdalene, with her eyes turned to the sky. Probably traveled to the Bolognese workshop of Carlo Cignani, from whom he absorbed the styles characteristic of the Emilian component of his painting; he was also influenced by the classicism of Carlo Maratta during a possible stay in Rome (M.
Dell'Omo, Il Legnanino, Bologna 1998; L. Casellato, Legnani, Stefano Maria, called the
Legnanino, in the Biographical Dictionary of Italians, no. 64, 2005.

Frame size; 108 x 82 cm (antique frame not from the 19th century)

Canvas: 98 x 72 cm

The work is in good condition of preservation, has been re-primed and re-lined. There are some spots on the face and hand where slight color losses occur, which should be restored. The artwork should be cleaned to continue the work started and, if desired, subjected to a small conservation restoration. It is an important piece, of great aesthetic impact and antique value, and it would deserve a complete enhancement.
