Provenance: Anon. sale, Sotheby's, London, 15 June 1983, lot 2.; The estate of the late designer Anthony Powell. Exhibited: Boston, Fogg Museum of Art (now Harvard Art Museums), no.124.1944 (loan). Note: Della Bella’s works were generally varied in subject-matter with the present work a particularly skilled example of his draughtsmanship. Its small scale requiring fine lines and a delicacy of drawing effectively contrasts the imposing weight and power of the war galley
