A pleasing Mint State representative of the ever-popular early Straits Settlements silver series. Struck during the reign of Queen Victoria, the obverse displays the familiar crowned portrait by William Wyon, while the reverse features the bold denomination within an elegant beaded circle, framed by the bilingual inscription identifying the issuing authority and denomination.
Certified NGC MS62, this example possesses bright frosty surfaces with an attractive silver-white appearance and lively satiny mint lustre that remains evident across both sides. The legends are crisply rendered, the central devices are boldly defined, and only light contact marks typical of the assigned grade interrupt otherwise appealing Mint State preservation.
An increasingly difficult issue to locate in true Mint State, this coin represents an excellent opportunity to acquire one of the key silver denominations of the Straits Settlements series. Only three examples have been certified by NGC in MS62, with a single finer example graded, making this an impressively high-end survivor of the issue.
