Superb Albert Einstein Photo, Among the Finest Known

A silver gelatin photograph depicting German theoretical physicist Albert Einstein (1879-1955), signed, dated, and inscribed by him as "Albert Einstein / Berlin. September 1927" along the mount at bottom. Framed behind glass in a floating mount. Minor silvering along the edges is consistent with age. Else near fine. The handwriting is bright and clear. Not examined out of the frame, which is slightly loose. The sight size of the photograph is 6.625" x 8.875" while the overall framed size is 12.25" x 15.25" x .75."

The photograph depicts a candid bust portrait of the world-famous scientist and Nobel Prize winner. Einstein's dapper wardrobe, comprised of a pin-striped suit and patterned necktie, contrasts with his adorably unruly hair. Two objects in the photograph perfectly capture Einstein's essence: the fountain pen nestled in his lapel pocket suggests the ever-present immediacy of his work, while the pipe in his left hand could be smoked while deep in thought, puzzling out the quandaries of the universe…

The photographer of this portrait is unknown and we can locate no other copies of this image. The present photograph is very probably the only surviving example of the image.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
