Niedenthal, UK ex private collection, UK SUPERB PAIR OF ATTIE FIGURES The Attie (or Akye) are one of a group of twelve southern Ivoirian peoples that can be described collectively as the Lagoon peoples. They are related to the Akan, but their existence in this region of coastal Côte d'Ivoire is thought to be of greater antiquity. This figure is a prime example of Attie aesthetic preferences, with its sharply distinguished body parts and limbs, full rounded forms and use of small inset pegs (and finely raised ridges) to depict old-fashioned scarification patterns.
