Beautiful early and decorative map of Switzerland by Jodocus Hondius after Mercator in original old hand-colouring. Probably issued after the death of Jodocus Hondius (or: Joost de Hondt, 1563-1612) by his son Henricus in a reissue of Mercator's atlas. With seven cityscapes: Luzern, St. Gallen, Bern, Solothurm, Schaffhausen, Zurich and Basel, and six figures in traditional costumes: noblemen, peasants, men and women. Simple scroll cartouche, with title top left. Bottom centre impressum: 'Amstelodami ex officia Iudoci Hondii F. ' References: Van der Krogt 1, 4900: 1B. 1; Painter 6, 107. 2. In excellent condition, full page (417 x 553 mm) with sufficient margins, on delicately hand-laid paper with watermark 'R', centrefold as issued flattened, old hand-colouring, verso blank, no tears or repairs.
