Provenance: Estate of Carol A. Straus, Houston, Texas.
Condition Report: In good "as found" condition. The surface is old, presumably original. It exhibits a number of blemishes, rings and small areas of raised finish, the most notable imperfection being a water ring on the shelf, about 2-1/2" x 5". The piece is tight at its joints, sturdy and functional. NOTE: The provenance of the present lot is the estate of Carol A. Straus, Houston, Texas. This item was found en suite with the family's custom T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings interior, commissioned ca. 1946 for The Straus House, 1814 Larchmont Road, Houston, Texas. Other lots from that group were offered at New Orleans Auction Galleries' sale 2102, April 21, 2021, lots 11-24. The cocktail table from that sale is presently in the collection of the The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. By family tradition, this table was part of that commission. An old typewritten listing of the Robsjohn-Gibbings pieces mentions "1 end table"; we believe this to be that table.
