comprising a covered chocolate cup and saucer, numbered 1 of an edition of 500 with gilt griffin handles and scale work over a cobalt blue ground, the Company arms in gilt and an oval cartouche painted with H.M.S. Victory, maker's mark for Spode, contained within plush-lined case of issue -- 4 x 6¾ x 12in. (10 x 17 x 30.5cm.)
The Worshipful Company of Shipwrights, presented in 1983 by Messrs Spode Limited.
Made by Messrs Spode Limited, Stoke on Trent, in Maritime England Year (1982) to commemorate the granting of the livery to the Company in 1782. The design is based on one by Josiah Spode in his 1820 Shape Book.
