THE VERY RARE "ALDERNEY" UDC ON 1d RED COVER TO GUERNSEY; 12 Dec. 1850 E to Guernsey with v. near 4-margin 1d Red (DC; just touched at lower left) tied by a light Alderney 1st-Type "965" Numeral and having a mainly very fine very rare matching black "ALDERNEY" sanserif UDC (Guernsey A1) on the back flap along with a very fine blue "GUERNSEY/DE 12/1850/A" double-arcs cds (across the join). This UDC is one of the most difficult of all Channel Islands marks to find; only in use 1848-51 - few complete covers are recorded. [SG cat. £1,400 in 1991.] Exhibition Item.
