"POPPY" TABLE LAMP
circa 1904
base modeled by Ruth Erickson

20 in. (50.8 cm) high
17 in. (43.2 cm) diameter of shade
Condition Report:
Overall in very good condition. The shade displays a warm palette of amber, yellow, and vibrant orange with bright apple green foliage when viewed firsthand. The shade with approximately 3 hairline cracks dispersed throughout, stable. The etched filigrees overlaying the leaves and poppy centers are entirely intact and present with some oxidation throughout. The shade with some traces of surface soiling concentrated to the contours adjacent to the leadlines and beneath the overlays of the leaves and poppy centers, consistent with age. The base displays a classic earthy green hue characteristic of the work of Grueby, which is highly complementary to the predominantly red shade. The glazed surfaces with scattered minor surface irregularities inherent in the making and not visually distracting. The bronze elements present with scattered minor surface scratches and abrasions throughout consistent with age and gentle use, and with one small area of white accretions. The patina on some areas of the bronze elements with some paint enhancement. With period sockets. With a period finial in very good condition. A very rich and naturalistic lamp unit.
