Tabriz - Carpet - 185 cm - 103 cm

[ translate ]

Beautiful prayer mat knotted by hand in Tabriz, Persia, in the early 20th century. Tabriz called SUF, in natural silk and metal. Cotton warp, silk pile, silk weft, metal on the central field featuring the characteristic relief of the design on flat background - the metal is obviously oxidised and has slight damage (see photos) . Elegant rug, increasingly hard to come by on the market. Beautiful colours and graphic composition. 'Cartouche' border with multicoloured birds and flowers, the central field offers a tree of life starting from a pot and it covers the space with branches, flowers, birds and butterflies in a blaze of light and truly enchanting colour. The cantonals, deliberately darker, highlight the central scene of the Mihrab. The rug is in very good condition with no wear on the silk or the structure (it was framed and hung as a picture for decades) . It needs to be professionally cleaned, especially the slightly discoloured kilim of the fringes and the fringes themselves, perfectly preserved but need to be cleaned. The rug was imported from Iran before 1 January 2015. A collector's item.
