Tabriz rugs are a type of Persain rug. Tabriz, in north-west Iran, was a historical production centre for rugs and is a region famous for its court rugs, like the Ardabil carpet. After the mid-19th century, Tabriz relaunched its rug production and has become a production centre for export to Europe and other areas. Tabriz rugs are of particular importance. It is in the city's workshops that the first rugs destined for export were created. After sending antique carpets to foreign countries, the vendors started producing carpets themselves in workshops, according to the measurements and colours ordered by European merchants. It is perhaps for this reason that these rugs do not have a distinctive colour.
