Tall Chinese Ming Dynasty Pottery Jar, TL Tested

[ translate ]

East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE, probably later in the period. A large, fascinatingly colored vessel created using the flambe glaze technique - a high-fired, iridescent glaze that often has blue, purple, or reddish colors, created by regulating copper or other metallic minerals that interact with a very thin glaze. This method produces completely unique pieces, as each color/glaze variation cannot be replicated. The style was probably developed during the reign of Wan-li (1573-1620). This large vessel is barrel-shaped, with applied bands of decoration and an incurved, slightly rolled rim. It stands on a flat base that slopes inward from the lower body of the vessel. The interior and exterior are glazed a salmon pink hue with a touch of iridescence. Size: 16" W x 19.5" H (40.6 cm x 49.5 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

Provenance: private Los Angeles, California, USA collection, 1980s-2000s

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
