Tall Greek Pottery Skyphos

Ancient Greece, Athens, ca. 5th to early 4th century BCE. A tall blackware wine cup (skyphos) of a classic form with very thin walls, a short raised foot, and twin horizontal loop handles, probably used for drinking wine at symposia and/or placed into a grave in memory of that practice. Size: 7.45" W x 5.5" H (18.9 cm x 14 cm)

Provenance: private East Coast collection, New York, USA; ex-East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
