Provenance: The turnings on this walnut mortar and pestle are beautiful and it is unusually tall measuring 10 inches and it is 5 inches in diameter. But the crushing bowl is only 3 inches deep with the very bottom being concave and sharp edged. Unique design and probably explains the reason the pestle has been hand carved around the bottom so as to more effectively crush the spices, etc. The mortar is in great condition with only a very small but stable age crack on the lip and in the bottom of the bowl. A stand out m & p.
