Tanto - Tamahagane - Antique Japanese hira-zukuri tanto (yoroidoshi) in shirasaya - Japan - Muromachi period (1333-1573)

Antique Japanese hira-zukuri tanto 'Yoroidoshi' (armour piercer) in shirasaya, made for piercing samurai armour (yoroi) . The blade was forged in the Muromachi period by swordsmith Yukimitsu and is signed 'Yukimitsu'. The blade has a good polish and shows fine scratches, 'itame hada', 'notare' hamon with deep temper in the tip, 'ubu nakago'. There are no visible forging flaws, no chips or cracks, no bends in the blade and the cutting edge is very sharp. Nagasa length (cutting edge) : 23 cm, 'motogasane': 6 mm, 'motohaba': 2. 3 cm, total length in koshirae: 37. 5 cm. The sword has an original Japanese 'torokusho' (Japanese registration certificate) .
