Taylor & Huntington, Collection of 32 Civil War Stereoviews, Incl. Professor Lowe in his Balloon, Battlefields, and African American Subject Matter

Lot of 32 stereoviews from The War for the Union, Photographic War History series released by Taylor & Huntington and The War Photograph & Exhibition Company, both based out of Hartford, CT, ca 1890s. All of the images are on oversized orange or buff-colored mounts with detailed descriptions and pricing imprinted on verso. The series is comprised of images spanning 1861-1865, taken primarily from negatives attributed to Mathew Brady and Alexander Gardner. Naval and battle scenes, including views of the weapons and wreckage, are documented in the stereoviews offered here, as well as camp life, city views, and landmarks. Noteworthy scenes include: "Professor Lowe in his Balloon;" "A Battery of Flying Artillery;" "Field Telegraph Station;" and the steamship "New York" shown "Waiting for Exchanged Prisoners." African American soldiers and civilians are documented in the views entitled "Filling their Canteens," "Bomb-proof Quarters of Major Strong, at Dutch Gap, Va., July, 1864," and "A Negro Family coming into the Union Lines."
Condition Report: Range in condition from good to near excellent. Some with toning, scattered spotting. Light to moderate corner/edge wear to mounts.
