Tea bowl - porcelain - Kawasoe Aoyama 川副青山 - Nabeshima Chawan with extraordinary colours - signed Seizan (Aoyama) 青山 - Japan - Shōwa period (1926-1989) Very skilled and finely made Nabeshima Chawan/tea bowl by the ceramic artist Kawasoe Aoyama. Wonderful colours and colour scheme. Signed by the artist and with a signed wooden box and information about the master potter. Flawless condition. Nabeshima Yaki belongs to Imari porcelain originating in the area of Arita on the island of Kyushu where porcelain manufacturing in Japan began in the year 1616. Two more styles simultaneously developed in Arita in the middle of the 17th century: the Kakiemon and the Iro-Nabeshima style. The latter gets its name from the Nabeshima clan who ruled the territory where the kaolin deposits and the porcelain factories were located. Nabeshima porcelain is highly regarded in Japan.
