Important edition of this vernacularization of Terence. The beautiful and very well preserved coeval binding is of particular rarity. Most Terence’s texts often feature worn or posthumous covers. Due to the considerable interest, the work was greatly used at the time as an important study text of the history of the Italian language, as a grammatical and humanist instruction manual for many young Venetian patricians. Numerous comments accompanying the text. At the end of the work there is a unique letter by Fabrini letter to a Florentine friend, in which he proudly claims to belong to his homeland, Fighine. Fine coeval full parchment binding. Spine with 5 raised bands with beautiful coeval handwritten title and author. Another faded handwritten piece on the front plate. In very good condition. Crisp interior, no tears or defects. Italic lettering for the text, round for the commentary. Lovely ornate drop caps enrich the text at the beginning od each of the comedies. With a woodworm hole that marginally affects the bottom edge of about twenty sheets, without any loss of text (see photos) . Sporadic, slight underlinings. Cover page with old discoloration at the bottom margin, most likely a former ownership signature. Without printing indications (but Niccolò Bascarini) . Coeval endpapers included.
