A gilt-bronze figure of Buddha sitting cross-legged on a tiered base with lotus detailing; Buddha shown with right hand resting on his knee, fingertips touching the earth (Bhumisparsha mudra) the face serene with wide eyes, ushnisha surmounted by a conical flame; sanghati draped from the left shoulder. 1.6 kg, 21cm (8 1/4"). Property of an East Sussex gentleman; from his private collection formed between 1983 and 1990; formerly in a South East London collection formed in the 1970s.
