671 pp. (8vo) 21.2x12.5 cm (8¼x5"), period tree calf, spine ruled in gilt, morocco lettering piece.

More commonly known as the Federalist Papers, this text includes 85 essays, most of which were originally published in New York newspapers under the pseudonym "Publius." This "New Edition" identifies the authors of the individual papers, and the "numbers written by Mr. Madison corrected by himself." It is called the "most famous and influential American political work." See Howes H114; Sabin 23981. The top two-thirds of the front free endpaper, and the top one-third of the following flyleaf, have been clipped off; the flyleaf has on it the ownerships signature of Christian Eby, dated Sept. 17, 1824; The top one inch of the rear free endpaper has been clipped off, but on the remaining portion are what seem to be early pencil sketches of mastodon and a bison.
Condition Report: Just faint rubbing to cover edges and spine ends; foxing/darkening within, very good or better condition.
