The William Phillips Family Federal Carved Mahogany and Mahogany and Bird's-eye Maple Veneer Inlaid Sideboard, attributed to John and Thomas Seymour, Boston, early 19th century, the top with outset corners and crossbanded and string-inlaid edge, on the conforming case of three bird's-eye maple veneer and mahogany crossbanded drawers with black and white stringing, with contrasting conformingly inlaid drawers below, and four hinged doors, all flanked by half-engaged columns continuing to acanthus-carved and beaded legs tapering to turned feet, brass pulls appear to be original, refinished, (minor imperfections), ht. 42, wd. 73, dp. 25 1/2 in.
Provenance: The sideboard was owned by William Phillips, Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, and is from the Faneuil-Phillips House on Tremont Street in Boston; by family descent to the present owners.

The proper left front leg is pieced a third of the way up the reeded section. It is a very good and old restoration. It has been refinished at some point but retains a warm patina. the veneer on the doors shows some cracks from shrinkage.
