Thomas Langley, British b.1986 - Buy Mum a House #4, 2016; oil on board, signed, titled and dated 2016 on the reverse, 49.5 x 37.2 cm (unframed) (ARR) Provenance: Fine Art Society, London, where purchased by the present owner in 2011 Note: Thomas Langley is a British interdisciplinary artist whose works often employ text to challenge the often artificial distinctions which are imposed between modes and genres of artistic expression, and particularly the differentiation between ‘high art’ and street art. The somewhat unfinished look which pervades much of Langley’s work gestures towards his interest in exploring the process of artistic production, and raising the issue of to what extent an artwork is ever ‘completed’, or whether it is instead constantly reworked by the viewers who engage with it. Langley has exhibited at the Union Gallery in London, Marian Cramer Gallery in Amsterdam, and the Jerwood Gallery in Hastings.
