Three Different Rare Colorado Railroad Stocks/Bonds incl. Mears Autograph [155697]

Lot of 3 different. 1) Rio Grande Southern Railroad Company. Inc. in Colorado. No. A81, issued for 1,000 shares in 1892. Signed by Otto Mears as president and JL McAerl as secretary. Signatures heavily punch cancelled. Red border, black print, and nice locomotive vignette. Otto Mears, "Pathfinder of the San Juans," was a central railroad and mining figure in Colorado's history. This railroad operated between Durango and Ridgway, Colorado. 2) Certificate of Deposit of First Mortgage Bonds for the Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad Co. No. 24, issued for $65,000 to Francis Leland in 1889. Signed by the vice president (cut cancelled). Operated 1872 to 1889, when it was sold to the Denver, Leadville and Gunnison Railway. The line ultimately extended from Denver to the Baldwin/Caselton areas near Gunnison. From Denver, it went up the valley of the South Platte River to South Platte, then to Buffalo Creek & Bailey to Como through South Park to Garo, Fairplay and Alma. DSP& P built their own line into Leadville, crossing the Continental Divide twice. 3) Silverton, Gladstone & Northerly Railroad Company. Bond no. 63, issued for $500 in 1899. Signed by the president and treasurer. Not cancelled. 10 coupons attached. Green border and nice large locomotive vignette. Chartered in 1899 by the Gold King Mining Co. to haul ore from the mines on Cement Creek to the Silverton smelters. Otto Mears and his associates had been unable to secure money to build a branch of the Silverton Northern Railroad to the mining area around the town of Gladstone. The line ran from the mainline of the Silverton Northern on the north side of Silverton, followed Cement Creek northward, and reached Gladstone, 7.5 miles. It was leased by the Silverton Northern in 1910 and absorbed by them in 1915.
