Three Mola Textiles of the Cuna (Kuna) Indians, Sun Blas Island, Panama
Ca. mid 20th century/vinatge, multilayer figural multicolor design, western influence, framed with canvas backing. Two with helicopters, old labels attached on the back, 16 ⅞"x 20 ⅛" and 16"x 20 ⅛"; hot air ballon with birds, old label attached on the back, 18 ½" x 15 ½" image, 25 ½" x 22 ½" overall framed. Hand made by Kuna women, elaborately designed and painstakingly sewn cloth panels stitched in appliqué.
Provenance: Gus and Mimi Bizic "Mola Woman" lifetime private collection, Sewickley, PA, by descent, and then to current owner; acquired at Panama in 1970, The Kapp Kuna Expedition Collection.
