Fish scale stippled ground, beaded borders. "Presented to Brig. General Egbert L. Viele. Military Governor at Norfolk Virginia, by the loyal citizens as a mark of their respect and esteem. July 4th 1863". Tiffany & Co. English sterling 550 Broadway N.Y. Brig. General Viele was a civil engineer and U.S. Representative from New York, 1885-87. An officer in the Union Army during the Civil War. Covered sugar bowl, finial slightly bent. Teapot cover slightly sprung. Covered creamer final very slightly bent. Coffee pot- 12" high, finial bent and pushed down. Hot water kettle- Where handle hinge and silver bracket from body that hinges with the handle is bent 1/4" to the side. Cover finial slightly bent. Beaded border burner unmarked. Total weight without burner- 174.5 oz.t
