The author Rabbi Yitzchak Caro (1458-1535) one of the greatest sages of Spain in the generation of the Expulsion, and Rosh Yeshiva in Portugal. After the Portugal Expulsion he settled in Turkey and there he brought up his nephew Rabbi Yosef Caro author of the Shulchan Aruch in his house, who drew from his great uncle Rabbi Yitzchak a wealth of Torah and Yirah, Rabbi Yosef Caro mentions him several times in Beit Yosef as 'Mori Dodi'.
