Tolla Inbar, German b.1958- Write and Read, 2005; bronze, signed, dated 2005 and numbered AP 5/8 in the base, 79x18cm (ARR) Provenance: Opera Gallery, Miami, where purchased by the present owner. Note:‘Read and Write’ is another of Tolla’s sculptures that epitomises many of the thematic explorations of her work: education and edification. As with much of her work, there is an ambiguity as to whether the two figures are representations of the same person at different stages in time, or two distinct individuals engaged in collaboration. Either way, ‘Read and Write’ embodies what she calls the “spiritual optimism” that defines her work.
