Topaz Teófilo Otoni, Mucuri Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil...

[ translate ]

Topaz Teófilo Otoni, Mucuri Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil "A very sharp 10 cm terminated yellow crystal. Bought the specimen from Jacinto Neto of Teófilo Otoni, Brazil." - Rock H. Currier The significant difference between this specimen and most of the Topaz mined in Brazil, is that the greatest amount is recovered from alluvial mining operations and suffers from stream rounding and wear. This is fine for raw material intended to be faceted and irradiated to produce the 'blue topaz' seen in attractive and affordable jewelry, but it makes for rather unattractive additions to your mineral cabinet. Undamaged ones, like this 4-inch prism, are found in situ during 'hard-rock' mining operations and, if they are lucky, not beat up by poor handling technique after extraction. This exceptional crystal came directly from the miner hands and went into Rock's hands. Overall Measurements: 3.9 x 2.0 x 1.2 inches (10.0 x 5.0 x 3.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Bought from Jacinto Neto [RHC #4978, acquired 1987] [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
