Two $1000 Absolute Money Greenback-Labor Political Notes

Two political currency notes, measuring 8" x 3.25", Washington, D.C., July 24, 1880. Both for $1000. A satirical note decrying the issuing of paper money in the United States, a position held by the National Greenback-Labor Reform Party. The two notes show various images of Uncle Sam cranking out paper money from the US Mint, a skull and cross-bones, and a fox greedily eyeing a flock of geese. Reads in part on front: "Redeemable nowhere, in nothing and by nobody. The law directs that this money shall circulate freely. When this note has been spent, another may be had upon application at the U. S. Treasury." With Party quotes on verso. "Burn the Bonds. Shoot the Bondholder. Down with Capital. Vive la Commune." Each note has flattened folds, with one small hole to one. Light wear and toning to each.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
