Two 20th C. Yemeni Steel & Silver Jambiya Daggers

**First Time At Auction**

Middle East, Yemen or Saudi Arabia, ca. 20th century CE. A pair of personal knives known as jambiya with thick midribs and dramatically curves blades. The first steel dagger features a high-grade (95%) silver handle with dense filigree additions and inscribed Arabic text. The corresponding silver sheath bears green fabric as well as wire-bound rings, additional filigree details, and a miniature disc ornament topping each belt loop. The second steel dagger has an ornate nickel-silver handle boasting delicate ornamentation and a serrated pommel end. Its accompanying nickel-silver sheath is bedecked with additional ornamentation as well as a conical finial on the end. Size of largest (w/ sheath): 5.875" W x 13.125" H (14.9 cm x 33.3 cm); (blade): 6.5" L (16.5 cm); quality of silver (only knife/sheath w/ green felt): 95%.

Provenance: ex private Ventura County, California, USA collection, acquired prior to 2008

Condition Report: Both knives have light encrustations on some areas and several shallow indentations to sheaths, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina throughout.
