Two Chinese Han Dynasty Earthenware Earth Spirits

Chinese, Han Dynasty. A painted earthenware semi-human earth spirit with a single horn protruded from the top of its head, and having shoulders with flame form wings, with the legs ending in cloven hooves. The other figure a large pigment painted lioness earth spirit with antlers and fins behind the ears, and with cloven rear hooves and front talon claws. Approx: (larger) h. 36". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Morton & Kathleen Sachs of Louisville, Kentucky, purchased from TK Asian Antiquities (Williamsburg, VA) in 2000 or 2001 for $18,150.
