Two German porcelain figures of the Madchen mit flatterndem (girl with a fluttering dress) and the Lauschender Knabe (listening boy), possibly Hochst, possibly c.1770, blue wheel mark to girl, crowned blue wheel mark to boy, incised marks, the girl wearing a black and turquoise bodice and a black apron, the boy wearing a pale-pink hat and jacket, with his finger raised towards his mouth, both standing on grassy rocky mound bases, the girl 15cm high; the boy 16cm high (2) Provenance: Works of Art from the Schroder Collection. Note: An example of the Madchen mit flatterndem, modelled by J.P. Melchior, is illustrated by Horst Reber, “Hochster Porzellan aus drei Jahrhunderten”, n.d., p. 98, and an example of the Lauschender Knabe, also modelled by Melchior, is illustrated by Kurt Roder, “Hochster Porzellan”, Mainz, 1930, pl. 48, no. 258.
Girl: Her right thumb is lacking. The majority of an element in her left hand is lacking. There is some minute chipping to the ribbons of her shoes, and to one of the ribbon on her right shoulder - these are all minor. There are some small and minute chips to the edge of the mound base (the largest is to the left-hand side, and this is 2mm. x 3mm.). In addition, there is some flaking to the enamels of the grass on the mound by her feet and the rock behind her – this is a bit more noticeable. Boy: His left hand has been restuck at the wrist and there is restoration to his left thumb. In addition, his left index finger is lacking. There is a minute chip to the hem of his jacket (to the right-hand corner) – this is not very noticeable, and it is very minor. There is some minute chipping to the brim of his hat, and there are some small repairs to two of these chips. There is some chipping to the edge of the mound base – the largest (to the rock below his right foot) is 3mm. x 5mm.
