Two Michoacan Pottery Standing Pretty Lady Figures

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, Protoclassic Period, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. An attractive set of two hand-built pottery female 'pretty ladies' exhibiting characteristic feminine qualities. The first figure stands atop parted legs, holds both hands in a praying gesture in front of her impressed necklace, and features double pupil eyes and discoid earrings beneath a low-hanging hat. The taller figure wears an ankle-length skirt beneath a portly belly and globular breasts, annular earspools, and a minimalist band across her forehead. Size of largest: 2.75" W x 4.8" H (7 cm x 12.2 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s

Condition Report: Taller figure has repair to proper right earspool, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines; remaining figure is intact and very good. Both figures have minor abrasions and encrustations, with softening to some finer details. Great earthen deposits throughout and nice preservation to forms.
