Two Mola Textiles of the Cuna (Kuna) Indians, Sun Blas Island, Panama
Ca. mid 20th century, multilayer figural multicolor design, influence of WWII, framed with canvas backing. German aeroplane, 13 ⅛" x 17 ¾" image, 20 ⅛" x 23 ¾" overall framed; monster with bombs and swastika, 14 ⅞" x 18 ¼". Hand made by Kuna women, elaborately designed and painstakingly sewn cloth panels stitched in appliqué.
Provenance: Gus and Mimi Bizic "Mola Woman" lifetime private collection, Sewickley, PA, by descent, and then to current owner; acquired at Panama in 1970, The Kapp Kuna Expedition Collection.
