Two Mola Textiles of the Cuna (Kuna) Indians, Sun Blas Island, Panama
Ca. mid-20th century/vintage, multilayer figurative multicolor western influence design, framed with canvas backing. Bar scene, 14 ⅝" x 18 ⅝", 21 ¾" x 25 ⅛" overall framed; and cats and dogs in baskets, table attached at the back, 15 ¼" x 18 ½", 22 ½" x 25 ½" overall framed. Hand made by Kuna women, elaborately designed and painstakingly sewn cloth panels stitched in appliqué.
Provenance: Gus and Mimi Bizic "Mola Woman" lifetime private collection, Sewickley, PA, by descent, and then to current owner; acquired at Panama in 1970, The Kapp Kuna Expedition Collection.
