A complete U.S. Army Signal Corps Bivouac Flag Kit, including two original red-and-white cotton signal flags with wooden poles, housed in the marked canvas transport case. The bag is boldly stenciled “U.S. Army Bivouac Flag Kit – Officer in Charge Schell” and retains its strap and buckle closure. Signal flags of this type were used for visual communications and semaphore signaling in the field, often by forward observers, engineers, and communications officers. The set remains in very good condition with light field wear consistent with age.
