JOSLYN - MODEL 1864 - civil war: Total length: 98 cm Barrel length: 54 cm calibre: . 52 rimfire Number: 10898 The Joslyn 1864 model rifle, the second model, was a cavalry weapon that used an innovative breech-loading system, one shot, . 52-calibre, invented and patented by Massachusetts weapons designer Benjamin Franklin Joslyn in 1861. This second model supports the improvements brought to the 1862 model. The U. S. government signed a contract for a total of more than 16,500 Joslyn rifles (both models) during the Civil War. 8000 copies of the 2nd model were produced. Metal parts: weapon colour restored, all markings are clearly legible. Lock marked: ‘ JOSLYN FIRE ARMS Co. / STONINGTON CONN. / 1864’ Body marked: ‘ B. F. JOSLYN'S PATENT / OCTOBER 8th 1861 / JUNE 24th 1862’ Cover plate marking: ‘ U. S. ’ Marking on the breech tail and breech loading mechanism: 10898 Breech loading mechanism in perfect condition, entirely original, complete and functional, firm locking without any play.
