Uncommon Japanese Edo Ken Tanto With A Secondary Side Folding Blade
this highly unusual Ken style double edged tanto of sankaku shape with a secondary side folding single edge blade located in its handle. While in deccut condition for it's age both blades are out of polish and age toned to gray with the folding blade showing deep brown age patina along its spine. The black lacquered kosherae is exaggerated in length with both handle and scabbard fitting made of russet iron. The guard is made of black horn. The scabbard is fit with utility knife type pockets on both sides which are wider in size than normal, and thought to have contained other specialty type items for use with whatever this unusual item was used or intended for.Full Length 21.5 inch Blade Length 8 inch
