Northern Europe, Viking culture, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. A thin tang with a diamond shaped blade, flat, with the interior cut away. Circular cuts along the edges in the four corners add a geometric flair to this piece. Perhaps the interior held in place flaming material; the iron tip would ensure puncturing and spreading fiery destruction when fired into the enemy ranks.
