A nice 1908 Pattern cavalry trooper's sword in excellent condition. The 1908 Pattern Cavalry trooper's sword was the last service sword issued to the cavalry of the British Army. The 1908 Pattern cavalry trooper's sword has been called the most effective cavalry sword ever designed. In use, it, like other thrust-based cavalry swords, is best described as a one-handed lance. The blade ended in a sharp "spear" point. The large, sheet-steel bowl guard gave considerable protection to the hand. The rounded rectangular section chequered grip was of a semi-pistol configuration. Today the Pattern 1908 is no longer issued as a combat weapon but is still carried ceremonially by cavalry regiments of the British Army. The blade, guard and scabbard have several acceptance marks on them. Also the wooden grip has initials probably the owners initials.
