Literature: Pieter Vermeersch's artistic research into painting expands beyond the confinement of the canvas. His work often consists of spatial interventions subverting space, conceived for exhibition spaces or architectural contexts. Next to these immersive, painterly installations his oeuvre includes ephemeral zero degree paintings on canvas wether or not brought back to a concrete reality by the irreversible act of scraping or by the superposition of a natural stone. These are complemented with series of photographic prints or marble pieces reactivated with a few blots of paint, a stroke of the brush or gradual color planes. With representation and abstraction set as parameters, his oeuvre triggers infinitesimal perceptual experiences, which allow us to move in a sense of colour that calls into being the gap between appearance and disappearance, in which the divisions between two and three dimensional, immaterial and tangible, time and space are blurred.
