Unusual Faceted Cabochon Peridot by August Mayer
Unusual Faceted Cabochon Peridot by August Mayer
Burma
Faceted by August Mayer
Idar-Oberstein, Germany
To be cut en cabochon implies that the lapidary finishes the stone with a smooth polish. Not so with this highly innovative cabochon, designed by a renowned Idar firm and colloquially known as a "fabochon" (implying a fabulous cabochon!), displaying a soon-to-be-patented style of faceting. The high dome of this lovely Burmese peridot is covered in triangular-shaped checkerboard-facets, as is the domed underside. The pleasing green hues are surpassed only by the very good luster of the stone. A very wearable stone and an excellent choice for the collector. Weighing approximately 64.63 carats and measuring 24.0 x 18.5 x 16.0mm.
